Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the benefits of football scholarship and community service. The first is the Selmon family. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. The family raised nine kids on an Eufala farm. A second reason was his father was the only of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. For three seasons as the team's starter, Oklahoma finished 32-1-1 and won two national championships. Selmon was given a second scholarship in 1975, and was selected as an National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon was awarded a degree from Education. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week while he attended college. After graduation Lee Roy relocating to Tampa where he spent nine years playing with Tampa's Buccaneers. Three times he was named All-Pro. He began his business career. In 1988, he was an Account Relation Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also involved with these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as being among 10 of the most notable young men. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in the height department and weighed 256 lbs as a college player he played for the team of 1975. In 1993, Roy joined the university of south Fla's athletic department as the associate director. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. He was also named to the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, and then the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma was the person who presented the award.
