Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 2000) is an American performer and actress who worked for over 40 years. London was a torch performer, known for her smooth, soft voice. She recorded over 30 albums of jazz and pop songs from 1955 until 1969. The first time she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her recording of "Cry Me a River" which that she first performed on her debut album. Alongside her music-related recognition, London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her portrayal of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she started her career as an actress. London's 35-year-long acting career began in 1944 when she was cast in movies. This included roles as the lead female role in several westerns. She also starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958), and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). She signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. It was the beginning of her professional career as a musician. The album she recorded her final studio album released in 1969. Her success continued as the female star role in the role of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) She was with her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
